Cologne Drug Bust: 5.5kg Cocaine, 63kg Marijuana Seized
Customs officials in Cologne have made a significant drug bust, seizing a substantial amount of cocaine and marijuana. The investigation, led by the Zollfahndungsamt Essen on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bonn, uncovered the drugs hidden in a transporter driven by a 39-year-old Serbian man.
The man was initially stopped at the Siegburg rest area on the A3 highway due to suspicious behaviour. A drug swab test on his hands confirmed contact with cocaine, prompting a thorough search of the vehicle. Officers discovered a cleverly concealed hiding place under the loading surface of the transporter, where they found approximately 5.5 kilograms of cocaine and over 63 kilograms of marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that the entire floor of the transporter could be swung to the side to access the drug stash. The man's transporter, registered in Austria, was inspected due to contradictory statements about his journey, which ultimately led to his arrest and the seizure of the vehicle.
The seized drugs, with an estimated street value of around one million euros, will be destroyed after the conclusion of the proceedings. The Serbian man has been provisionally arrested, and the investigation continues to determine any potential links to organised crime.
