Collaborative Alignment: Three-year Union Between Our Platform and the German SailGP Team Established
In an exciting development, Deutsche Bank Wealth Management has announced a three-year sponsorship deal with the Germany SailGP Team. This partnership provides a new platform for the bank to engage with its current and future client base, while also aligning with the sailors' ambition to act as role models for society and contribute to a more sustainable future.
The racing boat and apparel of the Germany SailGP Team now feature the logo of the sponsor, making Wealth Management the team's first global partner. However, the exact sponsorship costs have not been disclosed.
The collaboration between the Germany SailGP Team and Deutsche Bank Wealth Management is focused on a specific sustainability initiative that uses environmental DNA (eDNA) to monitor and measure ocean biodiversity during SailGP races. This initiative involves collecting water samples during races at multiple locations, partnering with NatureMetrics—a company specializing in biodiversity measurement through eDNA analysis—and supporting local scientists and conservation groups.
The goal is to generate new insights into marine biodiversity that inform conservation efforts and inspire a deeper public appreciation for ocean health. This project embodies a merging of competitive sports with tangible, science-driven sustainability strategies to protect and sustain ocean ecosystems.
This project is part of Deutsche Bank’s broader commitment to ocean sustainability, supported by its partnership with the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA), which underpins the bank’s ocean-related environmental efforts.
Tim Krieglstein, CEO of the Germany SailGP Team, expressed his pleasure at having Wealth Management as a partner committed to positive change and protecting the oceans for future generations. The early-stage partnership gives both parties the unique opportunity to support existing projects and develop pioneering strategies in the field of sustainability together.
The individual SailGP Teams are evaluated based on their environmental impact, including waste reduction, electricity consumption, travel activities, and CO2 emissions. The sponsorship agreement grants Wealth Management marketing and social media rights.

This partnership aligns with Wealth Management's efforts to form alliances to protect the oceans. In 2019, the Chief Investment Office identified the oceans as a strategic macroeconomic risk and enabler. The blue economy represents a crucial part not only of the bank's sustainability strategy but also its business ambitions as a Global Hausbank for families and entrepreneurs.
Julian Thurston, Head of Strategy, Marketing & Global Client Management for the Private Bank, is proud to be the global partner of the Germany SailGP Team in their journey to empower innovation and sustainability in sail sport. In 2021, Wealth Management became a full member of the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) to build its knowledge and network in ocean research and conservation.
The combined goal is to take the sport and its sustainability ambitions to new levels by educating people, bringing fans closer to the action, and delivering world-class experiences to clients worldwide. The ambition of the Germany SailGP Team is to be involved in environmental protection and act as a role model for younger generations.
