CII Marks 125th Anniversary: A Century of Industry Leadership
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) marks its 125th anniversary this year, tracing its roots back to 1895 when it was founded as the Engineering and Iron Trades Association (EITA). Today, it stands as a prominent voice for India's industry, promoting competitiveness and societal development.
CII's journey began in 1912 when EITA became the Indian Engineering Association (IEA) to champion Indian manufacturers. In 1942, the Engineering Association of India (EAI) was formed to support small and medium engineering firms. These two bodies merged in 1974 to create the Association of Indian Engineering Industry (AIEI), later renamed as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 1986.
Post India's liberalization in 1992, CII evolved into the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), reflecting its expanded role and diversification. CII operates under four key pillars: policy advocacy, building industry competitiveness, expanding global footprint, and creating an equitable society. It has nine Centres of Excellence offering services like quality management, leadership training, and sustainability initiatives.
CII's new logo for 2020, 'Business and Beyond', symbolizes its commitment to industry competitiveness and societal development. The CII Foundation, established in 2011, focuses on early childhood education, women empowerment, disaster relief, and climate change resilience.
As CII celebrates its 125th anniversary, it looks towards the future with new initiatives lined up. The organization continues to play a crucial role in shaping India's industrial landscape and contributing to societal progress.
