Building projects in Baden-Württemberg - Replacement of trains with buses observed during construction phase
The Gäubahn, a train line running from Stuttgart to Switzerland, will experience disruptions from Friday evening (10 pm) to Monday morning (2:30 am) due to construction works. Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced that buses will serve as a replacement on the Gäubahn during this period.
Meanwhile, the Black Forest Railway will have no trains running between Villingen (Schwarzwald-Baar district) and Donaueschingen until October 17 due to track and sleeper renewal. DB will also operate buses as a replacement between Villingen, Donovan, and Engen on the Black Forest Railway.
Construction works are disrupting train traffic not only around the Black Forest and High Rhine but also involving Swiss trains. The High Rhine Railway electrification, aimed at ending the era of environmentally harmful diesel trains on the route, has already begun. Preparations for this electrification have also started between Basel and the Baden town of Erzingen.
During the electrification process, individual trains will not run between Waldshut station and Erzingen. Buses will serve as a replacement on the High Rhine Railway between Waldshut station and Erzingen. Between Engen/Singen and Constance, passengers are asked to switch to trains of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) on the Black Forest Railway.
In addition, bridges will be built between Oberndorf am Neckar and Rottweil during this period. Passengers on the Gäubahn will have to switch to buses between Oberndorf, Rottweil, and Singen.
DB urges passengers to inform themselves via the information media about these disruptions, which may include track closures. The details of these construction works in the Black Forest are not specified.
The involvement of Swiss trains in railway operations on the High Rhine and Black Forest railway stems from the international connection between Switzerland (Basel area) and Germany (Erzingen, Baden region). The line serves as a crucial link, and the electrification and expansion will allow modern, emission-free Swiss trains to operate effectively, improving cross-border traffic and service quality between Germany and Switzerland.
Construction works are also taking place in the Black Forest, but the specifics are not provided in the given paragraph. Nevertheless, DB remains committed to ensuring minimal disruptions and maintaining the smooth flow of transportation for its passengers.
