Budget Expenditures in Ekaterinburg Surpass the 100 Billion Ruble Mark for the First Time Ever
Fresh Take:
Ekaterinburg's City Council, the Duma, has given a nod to a revised budget plan for 2025! Here's the lowdown: the projected revenue climbs to a whopping 94.2 billion rubles (an 8% rise), but expenditures will rise even higher, reaching 104 billion rubles (a 15% jump). With this move, the city budget deficit swells from 3.1 to 9.7 billion rubles. But don't fret, the mayor's office insists everything's hunky-dory!
According to Alexander Gettmanchuk, the head honcho at the accounting chamber, both tax and non-tax revenues are set to see a boost in 2025, padded with an extra 6.8 billion rubles. However, expenses will also level up—take road construction and repair, for example, where a 2-billion-ruble increase is expected. Transport spending is also in line for a 42% boost. On the flip side, physical culture and sport will see a 340-million-ruble trimming from the budget.
The newly enlarged budget deficit pushes past the Budget Code's 10% limit, settling at 19%. Anna Turuntseva, director of the financial department, assured that the gap will be bridged using last year's surplus funds. Interestingly, Ekaterinburg managed a 5.6-billion-ruble excess in 2024.
Worth a mention: Ekaterinburg's authority wrapped up 2024 with a surplus, so keep your eye on this city!
