Border Guard Boosts Maritime Security with €6.3M New Patrol Vessel
The Border Guard has initiated a substantial project to fortify its maritime border security. This news-worthy initiative, slated for completion by April 30, 2025, entails the procurement of a new patrol vessel. The total project cost stands at €6,290,000, with €4,717,500 funded by the European Union's Border Management and Visa Instrument and €1,572,000 by the State budget.
The existing fleet of the Border Guard comprises vessels over 40 years old, making this upgrade essential. The new patrol vessel will markedly improve the agency's swift response to threats, detection, control, and reaction capabilities at the EU's external border. This social security-enhancing investment seeks to bolster maritime border surveillance capacity, guaranteeing the security and safety of the region.
The project, backed by the European Union and the State budget, is anticipated to deliver a modern, efficient patrol vessel to the Border Guard by the end of April 2025. This new asset will play a pivotal role in upholding the security and integrity of the EU's external border.
