Bolt, M-KOPA & Ampersand Launch Electric Motorbike Fleet in Kenya

Bolt, M-KOPA, and Ampersand have joined forces to introduce an electric motorcycle fleet in Kenya. This collaboration aims to revolutionize mobility and provide affordable, sustainable transportation options for drivers and passengers alike.

The initiative, supported by M-KOPA's fintech platform, offers discounted leasing rates for ROAM and Ampersand electric motorbikes. This makes electric bike ownership up to 40% cheaper than petrol bikes, benefiting both new and existing Bolt drivers. David Damberger, Managing Director of M-KOPA Mobility, stressed their commitment to driving this change through accessible financing solutions.

Josh Whale, Founder & CEO of Ampersand E-Mobility Kenya, welcomed the confidence shown by Bolt and M-KOPA in their electric vehicles and energy network. Caroline Wanjihia, Regional Director of RideHailing Operations at Bolt, expressed enthusiasm for the electric bike fleet, aligning with Bolt's commitment to sustainable and financially viable transportation in Kenya. Mikael Gange, CCO of ROAM, highlighted the efficiency of their charging infrastructure and battery systems, reducing operational costs for riders.

Bolt plans to deploy over 5,000 electric motorcycles in Kenya over the next three years, supporting the country's National E-mobility Policy. Through this collaboration, drivers can access electric bikes for as low as KES 10,000-15,000, providing lower maintenance costs, zero tailpipe emissions, and increased earnings.
