Bitumen Plant Opens in AKA Region: Industrial Development Advancement Unveiled
Chatting It Up: Atyrau Bitumen Plant's Modernization
Gather 'round, folks! The Atyrau Bitumen Plant is getting a fresh look, thanks to a strategic partnership between KazMunayGas and the CITIC Group. The makeover was all thanks to the nudge from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. CITIC Construction handled the general contracting, finishing the construction a month earlier than initially planned, thanks to some top-notch organization and the hard work of over 220 specialists working ’round the clock.
The revamp has given the plant some serious upgrades, increasing its annual oil refining capacity to 1.5 million tons and bitumen production to a whopping 750 thousand tons. The main focus? The ELU-AVT primary oil refining unit. The installation of a brand-new 140-ton vacuum column—standing tall at nearly 40 meters—was no easy feat.
To get the job done, the atmospheric section and technological furnaces were updated, along with the installation of 24 pumps, 20 heat exchangers, and 5 air-cooling units. Over 14,000 meters of tech pipelines, 317 control and measurement devices (CIM), and a ton of cabling were laid. And let's not forget about the automation and control systems—all spiffed up!
So, why's this modernization project such a big deal? It's all about forming a strong, strategic partnership between KazMunayGas and the CITIC Group. This project is pure gold for Kazakhstan, with the modernized plant churning out top-notch domestic bitumen to meet the nation's growing demand. This means less reliance on imported bitumen, which is a win-win for both the economy and the environment.
Don't forget, the Caspi Bitum joint venture is shared 50-50 between KazMunayGas and, well, someone from the CITIC Group. Located in Aktau, it specializes in processing Karazhanbas oil and producing road bitumen. Once complete, the plant's oil processing capacity will soar to 1.5 million tons per year, and bitumen production will reach 750 thousand tons—impressive figures indeed!
In essence, the modernization of Caspi Bitum is a strategic move to enhance Kazakhstan's energy security, support its economy, boost infrastructure development, and bring stability to the local market. How's that for a win-win scenario? Now, let's crack open the roads and kickstart that construction!
