Barcelona Maintains Possibility of Neymar's Return
In a chat with TNT Sports Brazil, FC Barcelona's Sporting Director Deco opened up about the possibility of Neymar making a comeback to the Catalan giants. The forward, who left Barca for PSG in 2017, has been linked with a return to both Barca and his boyhood club Santos.
Deco acknowledged that Neymar's return to Barca "was always something very distant" due to the financial implications and regulations of financial fair play. However, he praised Neymar's talent, stating, "At his best, Neymar is one of the best players in the world."
The former Portugal international didn't completely rule out a Neymar return, highlighting that "an operation with him can never be ruled out." But Deco indicated that Neymar is likely to rejoin Santos, stating, "Honestly, I don't know what he will do, but the most important thing is that he is happy."
Recent reports suggest that Neymar has indeed returned to Santos, terminating his contract with Al Hilal to join his boyhood club on a six-month deal with an option to extend for an additional year. This move comes after a disappointing stint in Saudi Arabia due to injuries, including a torn ACL and meniscus.
Neymar's decision to return to Santos is reportedly driven by a desire to reconnect with his roots and regain his form. The 31-year-old is also aiming to secure a place on the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup. However, there are no immediate indications that he is planning to return to FC Barcelona, suggesting a focus on rediscovering his love for the game and his national team aspirations in his native Brazil.
Deco mentioned that Neymar's return to Barca was once considered distant due to financial constraints and financial fair play regulations. Josep Bartomeu, who was the president of Barca during Neymar's departure, is no longer in that position. Neymar's current stint with Paris Saint-Germain has been marred by injuries, including a torn ACL and meniscus, but his decision to return to Santos might help him regain his form and possibly secure a spot in Brazil's 2026 World Cup team.
