Avangrid & Amazon Team Up Again for Oregon Trail Solar Project
Avangrid and Amazon have joined forces once again, this time for a new solar project in Oregon. The Oregon Trail Solar facility, set to begin operations in 2027, is the second collaboration between the two companies in the region. This partnership follows a previous agreement for energy from the Leaning Juniper IIA repower project.
The new project is expected to generate 57 MWdc (41 MWac) of renewable power, enough to supply several Amazon data centers in the Pacific Northwest. It will feature over 100,000 solar panels and produce enough electricity to power 10,000 American households annually.
Construction of the facility is projected to create around 200 jobs, with most positions filled by local union workers. Once operational, the project will also create several permanent jobs in the area. Furthermore, it is estimated to contribute approximately US$6 million in combined payments in lieu of taxes and property taxes over its lifetime.
This is not the first time Avangrid and Amazon have partnered on renewable energy projects. They have established similar collaborations in states like Illinois, Ohio, and North Carolina. Avangrid has also worked with other companies like Digihost for long-term solar agreements in various states. The Oregon Trail Solar facility is another step towards Amazon's commitment to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy.
