Aussie Metal Recyclers Embrace Technological Advancements for an Efficient and Sustainable Transformation
Rebellious Redesign:
Luke, the CEO of Sell & Parker Group—a scrappy family-run business rooted in scrap—tells the tale: "Old Man Parker and Max Sell started this joint back in '66, and it's been ours ever since. I hopped on board in '95 after grabbing degrees in Commerce, Law, and an MBA. Now, me and my bros, Morgan and Craig, keep the old bird flying."
STEINERT, the undisputed champ in global material processing solutions, has been our go-to for years, providing the gear needed to take our scrap metal game to new heights. From traditional goodies like the STEINERT UME Suspension Magnets to the latest technological wonders like the KSS Combination Sensor Sorter, STEINERT's got our back.
Trust the Process:
When asked why he chose STEINERT, Luke keeps it real: "We were told by our machinery babes that STEINERT was the top dog, so, why the hell not? We've gave a few other suppliers a spin over the years, but they didn't even come close. Terrific customer services, trustworthy advice—it's all part of the long game with STEINERT."
Sell & Parker? We're a busy outfit, operating eight yards and one big-ass shredder, six static shears, two non-ferrous balers, and a bunch of mobile plant. Plus, we've got a few other side hustles: engineering, fabrication, recycling drink containers, batteries, and military junk. We stretch from Port Hedland in Western Australia all the way up to Darwin in the Northern Territory, with six yards across NSW, including three in the Sydney Basin.
Our sheeple-sourced scrap is almost exclusively post-consumer, with the shredder processing landfill material, some end-of-life vehicles, and scrap from peddlers.
Consistency is Key:
On the future of metal recycling in Australia, Luke gets blunt: "Maximizing efficiency and recovery, turning each tonne of material into a net revenue miracle—that's what it's all about. All our scrap is sourced from within the land down under." The main issue in the current market? An oversupply of processing capacity, causing fierce competition for feed material. This means our production lines need to be streamlined, disciplined, and, above all, efficient.
STEINERT's sorting gear has been our secret weapon for years, providing reliable and consistent results. As Luke puts it, "It's no use having the fanciest piece of metal-sortin' equipment if it breaks down. STEINERT shines when the going gets tough. We've got steel-crunchin' Eddy Current Separators and magnetic powerhouses running the show, racking up 100,000 hours without batting an eye."
Our main shredder's been poppin' for 22 years, and Luke's grandpa's axe ain't got nothin' on it: "We've replaced handles and heads like it's nobody's business, but the STEINERT gear? Still going strong. Sure, our material handlers need swappin' every 12,000 hours, but STEINERT machines? Not a chance."
Metal-ing Forward:
With sustainability riding high on the global agenda, Luke speaks up: "The buzz about the circular economy might be trendy, but metal recyclers have been at it since the dawn of self-taming metal. We're here for the long haul, and we ain't forgettin' that scrap recycling is the bedrock of the broader recycling industry."
Over the years, Sell & Parker's been snatching every bit of value from the post-shredder stream. As the current and future metal recycling market heats up, we're focusing on improving the quality of our products and implementing cutting-edge STEINERT technology to drive our vision forward. Luke's got his sights set on more success, satisfaction, and profit for the company, employees, and customers. Currently, we're employing over 400 team members across Australia.
Luke's still Sooshin' for STEINERT: "Our main three frontline sortin' machines are still goin' strong at over 40,000 hours. I joke that STEINERT's biggest fault is their damn durable equipment—it never needs replacing. I've compared it to our material handlers that we replace every 12,000 hours!"
Johan van Zyl, the big cheese over at STEINERT Australia, gets real: "STEINERT's all about customer satisfaction, deliverin' top-notch products and services, and workin' side-by-side with our partners like Luke and the Sell & Parker team. We're committed to keepin' their traditional production equipment purrin' while stayin' on the cutting edge of new technologies."
