Russians ponder entrepreneurial journey: Study by Avito Работа and Avito Реклама revealed insights

In an extensive study involving two thousand Russians, Avito Работа and Avito Реклама aimed to comprehend the sentiments of fellow countrymen concerning starting their own business. The findings unveiled a considerable proportion of residents in the Far Eastern Federal District, with 38%, expressing a keen interest in launching their venture. However, only 12% are actively taking action, while another 26% waver in their decision, and 27% remain perplexed about the initial steps.

At a national level, the study disclosed that young people aged 25-34 (16%) make up the primary demographic of active entrepreneurs. In contrast, older age groups, such as those between 55-64 (57%) and 65+ (63%), exhibit less interest in business ownership, favoring employed work.

In terms of investment, men appear to plan more substantial financial commitments towards their ventures. For example, 14% of male respondents are prepared to put between 500,000 to 1 million rubles towards their business, compared to 7% of female respondents. The same trend is evident in the intention to invest between 1 to 5 million rubles, where 6% of men and 3% of women express interest.

Retail trade emerges as the most appealing sector for starting a business, with 19% of respondents favoring this industry. Creative industries, agriculture, home services, and beauty and health make up the top five sectors.

Although this study provides related data, it does not pinpoint the top sectors for starting a business in Russia specifically. However, analyzing general trends and popular categories on platforms like Avito indicates potential opportunities in creative industries, telecommunications, and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Further research or direct data from Avito's studies would be necessary for more precise information on the top sectors.

An entrepreneur in Russia, particularly within the age group of 25-34, tends to have a higher likelihood of actively starting a business, while older age groups exhibit less interest in this regard. In terms of sectors, retail trade is the most popular choice for new business ventures, with creative industries also proving to be popular sectors among Russians. When it comes to finance, men seem to plan more substantial investments for their business ventures compared to women.
