Albuquerque Convention Center refunds money to AFS.
During the conference and subsequent months, staff of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) engaged in negotiations with the Albuquerque Convention Center regarding the substandard air and heating conditions experienced by participants, guests, and staff during the 2024 Annual Meeting held at the center. AFS representatives persistently advocated for rectification and compensation, as the unsatisfactory conditions had caused distress to many of their colleagues and led some to leave early.
Eventually, the AFS's endeavors and the experiences of attendees were recognized by the Albuquerque Convention Center, resulting in a reimbursement exceeding half of the society's space rental charges. Additionally, a letter was received acknowledging the multitude of difficulties the poor HVAC conditions had created for attendees and staff. The convention center's response to the issue is appreciated, and it's noted that at the time, convention center staff were working diligently to address the HVAC issues and address the concerns raised by the AFS staff.
