After nearly seven decades, the age-old German manufacturing company has slipped into insolvency once more.

In August 2025, Ludwig Leuchten, a renowned German lighting manufacturer, filed for insolvency for the second time within three years. The company, with a rich history dating back to 1949, has been a significant employer in the industry.

The latest insolvency filing was officially recorded at the Amtsgericht Tübingen, with Michael Riegger appointed as the insolvency administrator. News coverage from the region confirms that Ludwig Leuchten is currently in financial distress.

Despite the insolvency, work at Ludwig Leuchten is continuing due to sufficient orders. However, the responsible parties are now actively seeking a new solution to overcome the company's ongoing financial troubles.

Ludwig Leuchten specialises in the production of lighting for industry, commerce, office buildings, and clean room lighting. The company's headquarters were moved from Mering to Metzingen, near Reutlingen, in 2017. Despite the headquarters move, the sales department remains in Mering. The company expanded in 1993 with the opening of a production site in Elsterheide, Saxony. All production is done exclusively at the Elsterheide site by 25 employees. The management, finance, controlling, and marketing departments are located in Metzingen.

It is worth noting that Ludwig Leuchten underwent a restructuring in 2014, but the exact reasons for the recurring insolvency remain unspecified in the available information. Interestingly, Fischer Elektro- und Beleuchtungstechnik GmbH, another company, is not affected by the insolvency proceedings.

The insolvency of Ludwig Leuchten affects not only the headquarters but also the entire company. The past three months have seen wages being covered by the insolvency program of the Federal Employment Agency. Despite the challenges, the company continues to advertise vacant positions, a move that raises questions about its financial stability.

This latest insolvency filing is a significant event, given Ludwig Leuchten's long history and its role as an important employer in the German lighting industry. The company's future remains uncertain, and the industry awaits developments with interest.
