Q: Spill the beans on you and your company, Actoris-21.

A: Daby Toure: Hey there! Let me give you a lowdown on me and my biz, Actoris-21. I've been at the helm of this ship for about three years now. Before that, I was running the show in various sectors of the banking industry. Actoris-21 was founded in 2012 with the aim of boosting Mauritania's economic growth, focusing on the mining sector and related industries like energy (electricity, oil, gas, etc.) and civil engineering.

Q: So, what made you decide to make this company your baby?

A: Daby Toure: See, our local expertise in these fields is pretty thin on the ground. To grow our country, we need essential resources — human capital and financial capital. The former is scarce in the industrial sector, and the latter, despite some hurdles, is still accessible. Having a decade and a half in banking under my belt, leading a small business, and a clear perspective of our economy, I can bring about meaningful change where I see traditional companies stumbling.

Q: What's the kickass aspect of us right now?

A: Daby Toure: Our forté lies in our unwavering dedication to our partners, without compromising on safety and ethics.

Q: And the journey? How did we get here?

A: Daby Toure: Being an entrepreneur ain't a walk in the park, especially in the early years. It's more like a toddler learning to walk and run — it takes time and plenty of stumbles. I took the reins of Actoris-21 in 2020, smack dab in the middle of a global pandemic... If I'd known it'd last this long, I might've thought twice. But family comes first, and the fire to succeed never fades. Juggling my duties as a father, I've faced some unexpected challenges, but I've never backed down. In the spirit of perseverance and faith, I'm pushing us forward, praying this crazy pandemic is History 101 before we know it!

Q: What were the biggest hurdles we've had to overcome?

A: Daby Toure: COVID-19, hands down. It's been a colossal challenge for not just us, but generations all over the world.

Q: What's the gist of our business atmosphere?

A: Daby Toure: Mauritania's economic potential has never been clearer. Investors and lenders are regaining trust, and that's promising, considering the booming activities in the oil, gas, mining, and energy sectors. Maintaining this trust is paramount.

I've gotta give a shoutout to our fantastic Head of Government and his team, serving under the enlightened leadership of President Mohamed Cheikh Ghazouani. This hard work will have a ripple effect on peace, security, economic growth, and even politics in Mauritania and its neighbors in the next two years and beyond. fingers crossed!

Q: What's our main mission?

A: Daby Toure: Our primary goal is to become a key player in the energy sector by 2030. We aspire to be a shining example for future businesses, offering our expertise and support to those who follow in our footsteps.

Q: What separates us from our competitors?

A: Daby Toure: We're all about fostering human capital, believing in the emergence of local and diaspora talent. That's our unique value proposition.

Q: What qualities have helped me navigate the tumultuous waters of my career? Any memorable leadership moments to share?

A: Daby Toure: Loyalty, integrity, respect, and tolerance are the cornerstones of my leadership. One particular moment was the discovery of Mauritania's gas potential between 2015 and 2017. At the time, I focused the bank's strategy on the mining and gas industries (prospecting/exploration). I knew our energy potential was immense, and now we're on the verge of a green hydrogen boom. Our geographical location gives us a significant advantage. Innovation and creativity were the order of the day!

Q: Where do you see us in the next two years, and how do I plan to bring about that change?

A: Daby Toure: To achieve this, we need to adhere to international standards, work with top-tier companies like Bouygues, Siemens, and Wartsila, and improve our processes and organization to meet the demands of heavyweights like BP, Kosmos Energy, Total Energies, SNIM, and Kinross.

Q: What benefits are our clients reaping from working with us in this cutthroat industry?

A: Daby Toure: When you've worked for global conglomerates like BNP Paribas, QNB, and Société Générale, climbing the ladder from receptionist to heading large companies, it's a testament to my leadership abilities. I'm aiming to bring that same dependability to our clients, offering them reliable services.

Q: What services/solutions or products do we offer, and what can future clients expect from us?

A: Daby Toure: Our offerings encompass engineering, maintenance, and industrial upkeep studies, spotlighting human capital and resources. Currently, we're involved in several high-value projects for our nation, and we're keeping hush-hush about them for now. Let's reconnect in about two years' time!
