Active Building Projects in the Region During Summer Vacation
Summer Roadworks Affecting German Highways in 2025
Traffic users in various regions of Germany should be prepared for delays and detours as extensive roadworks are underway on key routes. Here's a roundup of the ongoing and upcoming construction sites, closures, and detours primarily affecting highways A4, A71, and B23, as well as other local roads.
Highway A71
Work on the A71 between Ilmenau-West and Ilmenau-Ost started on September 6 and is expected to last until September 13. Due to surface damage from high summer temperatures, only one lane per direction will be available, causing traffic jams mainly during morning and evening rush hours.
Highway A4
Renovation of the section between Apolda and Weimar towards Frankfurt begins on September 10 and is scheduled to last until the end of October. An earlier segment between Hainichen and Beiersdorf towards Dresden is already under renovation until October 8, with a reduced two-lane operation causing potential delays during peak times.
Road B23 (Bavaria)
Several closures are scheduled on Road B23: - Half-side closure with traffic lights from August 25-31. - Full closure between Oberau and Ettal from September 1 to September 12, with a detour via Murnau, Bad Kohlgrub, and Oberammergau. - Another half-side closure with traffic lights from September 29 to October 24.
Other Roadworks
- Construction work on the A39 on the Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße, city-bound, at the junction with Wolfsburg-Mörse is ongoing.
- The county road 30 from the B 79 (Friedhof Groß Denkte) has been under construction since June 30.
- A section of about three kilometres of the Harz high road (federal road 242) has been under construction since early July.
- Since early July, a section of the federal road 244 in the village road through Schöningen has been under construction.
Local Roadworks
- The village road through Bornhausen has been fully closed since the end of June.
- Due to construction work in the area of the New Gate/Wilhelmstraße, some lines will not be able to serve the ZOB.
- The "centre" in Neudorf-Platendorf has been closed since July 14.
- The City of Wolfsburg is conducting roadworks on the Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße, Braunschweiger Straße, and Schillerstraße.

- From 21 July to approximately 5 August 2025, the roundabout in Calberlah will be fully closed.
- An overview of the construction sites and closures on the A39 can be found here.
- The county of Goslar has not provided an overview of their measures yet.
In addition to these construction sites, extensive renovations at Linderhof Palace in Bavaria are expected to cause longer waiting times and limited access through summer and autumn 2025. The overall German Autobahn construction tendering is currently frozen since July 11 due to government budget finalization delays until September, which may throttle new large-scale roadworks projects later in the year. However, no immediate infrastructure activity impacts have been reported yet.
Travelers are advised to anticipate localized traffic jams and detours, especially on A4, A71, and B23 during the stated periods. Planning alternative routes or allowing extra travel time during peak hours around these construction sites is advisable.
